Mighty Team Orange and Red Ignite Tony Rose A
The Major Tyke/Novice division was buzzing with tension and anticipation as two titans of minor hockey were slated to meet once again - Orange versus Red, round 2. From the first faceoff at centre ice, both teams were off - as if they were shot out of a canon!
Thornington took his turn between the pipes and stared Red down early with tremendous positioning as he covered the net in seemlingly effortless fashion. That cleared the way for young phenom Laurin to tuck one up in the top shelf for Orange to take the early lead (from Hambly and Clarke). Barnett took off next on a feed from Rideout to extend the lead, followed by McDonald (from Sanderson) and Barnett again with his second of the game again from Rideout.
But just as it looked like Orange was running away with it, Red stormed back in the third with 3 goals in quick succession to bring the game to within one. As the final lines hit the ice for the last shift Red jumped on a loose puck and raced down to tie the game with 5.9 seconds remaining, for one of the most exciting finishes of the season so far.
Orange fires it up again next Saturday December 5th at 10am at Tony Rose A rink.
