Last Nights Game!
ANOTHER GREAT EFFORT BOYS, WELL DONE!!!

Good morning Parents and Players,

Wow another exciting game last against in our home barn vs Wellington Centre and I must say how impressive the boys look as they arrive at the rink.   All business and maybe "boys" is the wrong term.... "young men" perhaps ? :)

Prior to game time, our pregame talk included the importance of applying what we practice into games and how well that system worked in our home opener.   We then drilled into following tasks to ensure another successful game:

Forecheck and backcheck with a purpose - we are a 2-way hockey team.
The importance of starting and finishing our checks - setting the tone for a physical game.
I personally challenged certain individuals with a task - they accepted their challenges.
Faceoff responsibility - we can gain puck possession even if we loose the draw.
Responsible breakouts, getting to our set up areas and looking for the far winger as an expolsive option.
Passing, believing in our linemates and playing a team game.

Overall the game was very positive.  That being said, we did get off to a slow start and the first period was a little sloppy.  We readjusted prior to the 2nd and quickly reinforced the importance of body contact and setting the tone.  The boys responded and then quickly took control of the game.  At the start of the 3rd we discussed the importance of continuing to play offence and not letting are opponent back in the game.  We adjusted mid way throught the 3rd to ensure we finished with class, more passing and not running up the score.  That's easier said than done and the boys did great achieving that objective.

Concluding the game we discussed our objectives and how we did, the boys assessment was bang on.  Awesome, as they're showing strong signs of understanding the importance of preparation, application and achievement.

Great work boys, keep up the PERFECT EFFORT.  Let's keep it rolling over the weekend.

Coach Jamie
