Members of Orangeville Minor Hockey

Please be advised that the Ontario Minor Hockey Association has denied Orangeville Minor Hockey request to move down a Category from AA to A.  Orangeville Minor Hockey will be a AA centre and our try outs will commence on or about April 22, 2019.

See below the OMHA's response.

Rick Stevens

Your centre’s Base Category Review application has been reviewed by the OMHA Category/Playdown Committee.

This response is to advise that a change in base category from ‘AA’ to ‘A’’ commencing with the 2019-20 season has been denied.

No further appeal is available for the 2019-20 season.  Categories for individual teams may be appealed by November 15 with respect to participation in the 2019-20 OMHA Playdowns as per OMHA Policy 2.1h).  The ability to request a review and change of the base category as allowed under Policy 2.1b) and will be available prior to the 2020-21 season.

After much consideration the Committee came to the conclusion that several of the teams within the organization were participating at an acceptable level as a AA Association.

While the Committee acknowledges that there are weaker teams within the Association it was felt that moving the Association to A because of a few weak teams would not be recommended. The OMHA does allow for these weaker teams to apply to be reclassified for the duration of OMHA Playdowns.  (Regulation 13.0 & 13.1)

Any further questions regarding this decision should be directed to your OMHA Regional Director, Paul Wilson.
