Incredible season for Flyers Atom AA’s ends with Tri County Championship.
The Orangeville Atom AA Flyers, sponsored by Dairy Queen, have recently capped off a terrific 2013-14 season by sweeping the Woolwich Wildcats to take the Tri County Championship. The Flyers started the season by decisively winning early bird tournaments in Richmond Hill and Orangeville in September. The winning ways continued into the regular season with the young titans going undefeated until the middle of November, compiling a 28-0-4 record to that point.
For the season, the Flyers overall record was 68 wins, 7 losses and 8 ties. Outstanding goaltending along with stellar defensive play led the Flyers to an impressive 115 goals against in the 83 games played. Powerful offensive play of the forwards combined for 368 goals for the season. Along the way, the boys picked up a tournament victory in Kingston in October, were finalists in the Guelph Powerplay tournament in November, won the Brampton regional Silver Stick tournament in December and were a respectable 2 and 1 in the International Silver Stick in Sarnia in January. Orangeville finished the regular season atop the Bowen division standings with a league best 23-1-4 record. A perfect 6-0 record in the preliminary round earned the Flyers a tilt with their arch rival Oakville Rangers in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) quarter finals. The series saw some great hockey from both teams, with the Rangers prevailing in 4 games. Undaunted, the young squad would go undefeated in the 9 games of the Tri County playoffs, taking the final series clinching game with a decisive 8-1 victory over Woolwich.
